An Art of Non-Places.

Hotel room paintings are the visual equivalent of muzak.

For the last four years I have signed generic hotel room paintings around the world with the name ‘Mavis Mardy’.

Mardy is an illusive, private artist whose works are on display in at least six continents. While her work has undergone numerous stylistic changes what has remained consistent is the sense of distance between artwork and viewer that itself is imbued in her works. This distance denies the possibility of ever truly connecting with the work, creating a sense of familiarity without intimacy.

Recent works on display (scroll over for caption):

Eventually the artist will have her own website detailing her works as they are displayed throughout the world.
